Bill Shorten and Chris Bowen’s spending bonanza has thrown the AFL Footy Show a lifeline after it was unceremoniously axed by the Nine Network today after 26 years on air.

The show that made no sense to more evolved Australians outside of Victoria has been on the decline for months, making this sudden pillow smothering by Nine somewhat unsurprising.

However, one of the show’s biggest fans was Opposition leader Bill Shorten, who today in Brisbane announced as stimulus package that should see close to $2bn carved off the make sure the AFL Footy Show and it’s legacy live long into the future.

“Just over $2bn has been earmarked to save the AFL Footy Show, securing quality entertainment for Victorians for this generation and the next,”

“That amount is enough to produce 845 years of the AFL Footy Show. Scott Morrison and the Liberals will let the Footy Show die. That’s the difference between me and him. That’s my vision for Australia.”

The Advocate reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office for comment but have yet to receive a reply.
