WikiLeaks founder and Australias most successful asylum seeker, has revealed today that he will be releasing a mixtape of indie/folk covers.

The release, titled ‘Six Years In a Leaky Embassy’, is a selection of his favourite cover songs, that were recorded in his bedroom within the Ecuadorian Embassy, where he has been residing, by right of diplomatic asylum, for the last six years.

Beginning as “a way to pass time”, Assange began recording his own versions of songs he liked on a vintage Tascam 4-track recorder, before upgrading to the music-making software GarageBand on his MacBook Pro.

“This is a compilation of my strongest work” Assange said. “It is not an album. It’s a carefully curated mixtape, which will be leaked through my website in the not-too-distant future”.

The Betoota Advocate posed the question to Mr Assange wether we should expect any Australian works. “Yes” he replied “I have to be very careful not to give too much away, though let’s just say that Eskimo Joe’s ‘Black Fingernails Red Wine’ isn’t on there.

Although Assange is being tight-lipped about the content of the mixtape, he has been known to do a moving version of Lana Del Ray’s ‘Video Games’ during traditional Ecuadorian festivities.
