After catching wind of all the negative comments about his casting for a Wuthering Heights adaptation, tall Brisbane boy Jacob Elordi has hit back at critics by stating he knows exactly how it feels to be ostracised from society – as he is a Queenslander, after all.

This comes as Saltburn director Emerald Fennell answered she would be casting Aussies Elordi and Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff in ‘Wuthering Heights’, which has understandably raised some eyebrows given that Heathcliff is described as dark skinned in the Emily Bronte classic.

That, and Elordi and Robbie don’t exactly look like they’d belong in 1800s England.

Nonetheless, Elordi has revealed to The Advocate that Fennell’s Wuthering Heights will feature an age gap romance set on a cattle farm in the sun-scorched plains of Longreach.

“Look, I know that it might look like I’ve never been ostracised from society, but I did live in Melbourne as a Queensland expat for a while”, says Elordi, “and I also went to Nudgee College.”

“Also, I’m really tall.”

Elordi goes on to explain that he thinks audiences will ‘absolutely love’ this modern adaptation.

“I’m just a simple farmhand, and she [Robbie] is heir to one of the biggest farming families in Australia.”

“It’s very tortured and heated. Think ‘Australia’ crossed with ‘Dangerous Liaisons.”

“Oh, and there’s this scene in one of the abandoned barns – anyway haha, I won’t spoil it for you!”

More to come.
