A new second-hand boutique in Newtown is causing both fascination and mild nausea after proudly announcing it will only sell garments that the previous owners have died in.
The store, called RIPcycle, markets itself as the first true goth op shop, and offers staggered pricing depending on the drama of the demise.
Speaking to the owner, Raven Morningstar, The Advocate learns more about this fascinating endeavour.
“There was a gap in the market for authentic goth clothing”, explains Raven, “and there’s nothing more goth than death.”
Raven explains that she finds most of the clothes at estate sales but that she also has a secret contact who sources the clothing for her but weirdly specifies that she’s ‘not doing grave robbing.’
“Clothes from freak accidents are pretty popular, as long as there’s not too much blood splatter.”
“We have a limited edition section filled with motorbike leathers that’s already flying off the shelves.”
Health officials have expressed concern about potential hygiene risks, but Raven has clarified that she gives everything a good Glen20 before it hits the shelves.
More to come.
