A local girl has left her Uber disappointed, after her Pakistani driver wasn’t speaking soothingly in Urdu to his friend back home over the phone.
“I look forward to the soft lullaby of a South Asian language as I look out of the window of my Uber” explained Sarah Wilkins (32).
“It’s a part of the experience I pay for” Sarah said frustratingly before hitting the 1 star button on Uber.
She described the lack of whispered phone chatter as “unprofessional” and claimed it ruined her usual meditative ride through peak hour traffic.
“Normally the soft chuckles of a foreign man while he very softly gossips with his friend through a wired headphone mic really rests my mind” Sarah said.
Without the gentle backdrop of Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi or Bengali floating through the air, she reported feeling “alarmingly present”.
“It’s the only time of the day I can relax, without the foreign language phone call all I could think of was my problems”
She even suggested a new rating option: “Driver was nice but failed to provide the therapeutic soundscape of overseas friendship calls”
