US President Donald Trump has now found an unlikely saviour in his enemy, as left-leaning folk finally turn their attention from his associations with convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, to blasting an ad campaign.
This comes as actress Sydney Sweeney continues to trend online due to a controversial American Eagle ad campaign that was unveiled a week ago.
The ad, which involves Sweeney speaking about her ‘great genes’ while pulling on a pair of jeans, has been accused of using coded language that is intended for racists to understand – known as a ‘dog whistle.’
For those who are chronically online and acutely aware of the cultural divisions in the US, there is some merit in suggesting that Sweeney’s ad campaign for American Eagle could be construed as a dog whistle, given that she is a white, blonde, blue-eyed woman talking about her ‘great genes’
This comes as alt-right online circles have long touted Sweeney as the ‘ultimate fantasy’ and claimed her as one of their own.
That, along with ICE agents targeting people of colour, and the president’s administration openly sharing racist imagery, has left people feeling understandably on edge.
But for the majority of people who don’t spend every waking moment online, Sweeney’s ‘great genes’ is simply referring to her being a very attractive woman with nice boobs, with the ongoing discourse doing nothing but serving the idea that the ‘insane left’ are offended by everything.
It has also helped to significantly drown out Trump Epstein files discourse on news sites and social media platforms.
As more and more celebrities and companies continue to use ‘outrage bait’ to elicit this exact reaction, people are now being urged to pick their battles.
More to come.
