An avid avian fan has today denounced The Guardian’s Bird of the Year results, declaring that the tawny frogmouth is “a bit dull, really,” compared to the likes of the gang gang cockatoo.
Penny Dallas, 42, a jewellery maker from the French Quarter best known for her resin butterfly necklaces, is said to have fallen victim to the common middle aged affliction of suddenly getting really into birdwatching.
However, for Penny, birdwatching is more than a fleeting hobby, it’s a way of life.
Which is why she now finds herself almost as outraged as she was back in 2021, when ‘the common magpie’ took out the award.
Speaking to our reporter, Penny passionately defends the second runner-up.
“The gang- gang cockatoo, also known as ‘Callocephalon fimbriatum’, is by far the most deserving. Look at its beautiful red head!
Our reporter refrains from suggesting that the gang gang cockatoo and black cockatoo may have made it so far because of the hilarious connotations of their name.
Well at least, that’s why she voted for the gang gang.
“They should make another poll, but for real bird watchers only”, adds Penny, “and only use their proper scientific names to ward off the normies.”
More to come.
