A local Flight Path District man has today sat down with The Advocate to explain some of his vernacular.

Joseph Meredano (22) from our town’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen dominated suburb has talked our humble regional newspaper through his strong accent.

The privately educated young man who’s parents were born in Australia said he often forgets he has such a strong accent – on certain words.

“Oh when I say things like Proochhhuttttttooooooooo (sic),” laughed Jospeh, he seemingly has a very thick accent when it comes to pronouncing food.

When questioned on how much of the mother tongue he actually speaks, Jospeh seemed a bit a bashful.

“Ah some here and there,” he shrugged.

“With la faaaameeeliaaaaaaaa (sic) you know.”

While obviously nice that he pays homage to his roots and his heritage, part of what makes a multicultural Australia such a wonderful place, Joseph was asked whether he might be bunging it on a bit.

“No way mate, that’s just the way I speak.”

“I’m not gonna say Moozzarelaaahh (sic) like some stupid Skippy mate.”

“Sorry.”

“I’m gonna say things properly.”

“Now, if you don’t mind, it’s time for an espresssooo.”

More to come.
