A local bridesmaid is considering throwing her phone out the window and moving to Nepal this morning, as she wakes to the news that she’s going to have to declare bankruptcy.
Wiping the sleep from her eyes and opening up her phone for a morning scroll, 29-year-old Jess McAdams felt a pang of anxiety when a notification alerted to a new group chat called “Chelsea’s Final Hoe Down”.
As a bridesmaid for one of her old school mates, Jess has been dreading the day she gets added to a random group chat filled with people she went to school with, some random colleagues and the bride’s snobby cousins from Sydney.
With the wedding fast approaching in November, Jess rolled through the lengthy opening messaging which had been written up by the maid of honour, and well known psycho-path, Harriet.
“Heyyyyyyyyyy all, starting this chat to lock in the deets n’ dollars for Chelsea’s Hens! Wooooooo Woooop!” wrote Harriet, who Jess had already been warned about from friends of friends.
“Confirming I’ve gone ahead and booked three nights in Hobart with accom, food, fireworks, “entertainment’, a wine tour experience PLUS a professional photographer locked in for the whole weekend.”
“Now I know what you’re thinking?! Harriet, how much will it cost??? Well I’ve pulled some favours (my family owns the winery hehe!) and I just need everyone to transfer me $3,249.56 by Friday!”
“Let me know if there are any issues, I just know that Chelsea would LOVE everyone to be there for the whole three nights!”
Switching over to her banking app, Jess sighed as she figured six months of consistent saving was about to get torched by an overly enthusiastic maid of honour who clearly comes from money.
“This wedding is going to rinse my bank account dry, and that’s before going to the bloody wedding which is in Byron.”
More to come.
