The Tasmanian parliament is today hosting another spectacular day of bickering, as the state’s parliamentarians figure out who wants to be in charge.
Liberal Premier Jeremy Rockliff spent yesterday facing a no confidence motion, which has spilled into today.
The motion centres around the crook state of the state’s budget, with a billion dollar proposed outlay on a new stadium at the crux of the debate.
If the motion is to pass, the parliament will have to look at shaking things up and either going to the polls, or attempting to find another leader.
The Labor party who just flat out couldn’t be bothered to try and form a minority government after the last election, has 10 of the 36 seats, and could potentially form a partnership with the Greens and some cross benchers.
However, they apparently are in support of the stadium which has caused such consternation.
The proposed stadium which is to be built on Macquarie Point looks like something a Qatari wealth fund should be responsible, but has been made a condition by the AFL, if Tasmania wants a team.
Long touted as the next location for a team, the AFL has agreed to make the Tassie Devils a thing, as long as their precious Melbourne boys don’t have to play outside in the cold.
“Yeah no way we are going to let those boys play in the freezing cold of winter, they might catch a chill!” said AFL boss Andrew Dillon.
“And that would give the Tassie Devils a legit advantage, so we just can’t have that.”
“I don’t care if we blow up the entire Tasmanian Government to get a stadium, we aren’t going down thee unless they give us some state of the art facilities.”
More to come.
