Sydney’s Barbershops Eerily Quiet Today

Usually the noisiest businesses in the entire city, Sydney’s barbershops are today as quiet as a council library.

This comes as the vast majority of the city’s Lebanese, Turkish, Persian and Greek-Australian business owners arrive at work today with very little interest in discussing the NRL finals.

The banter, predictions and sportsbetting tips have been replaced by the non-Premium version of Spotify crackling through the shop speakers – as customers dare not mention the fact that the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs received one of the greatest hidings in NRL finals history last night.

As the spiritual home for the vast majority of Australia’s southern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern migrants, the Canterbury-Bankstown football side has long represented the hopes and dreams of Western Sydney’s migrant communities.

But last night the Doggies were simply outclassed by their rivals from further west.

It was a Penrith Panthers masterclass that saw the Bulldogs exiting the 2025 season with a loss that was so comprehensive that even the most creative Sydney barber can not find a way to blame the referees.

It is believed that the city’s kebab shops, greengrocers and car dealerships are similarly quiet.

The only silver lining for the heartbroken doggies loyalists is the fact that the club’s premiership window appears to still be wide open, as the fans take solace in the fact that they were booted from the comp by a generational dynasty that has already notched four NRL Premierships in a row.

However, this does not take the sting out of a 46-26 loss against the mild-mannered church boys from the foot of the mountains.

Local Sydney barber, Moey (55) only had a brief comment for the Betoota Advocate this morning.

“Cronulla always gets a way better draw in the finals, I swear” he syas.

“We would have smashed the Raiders cuz but they always make sure  give the easy matches to those rednecks in the Shire”
