Sydney’s backpacker community is gearing up for what they’ve promised will be a totally civil, totally sober Christmas gathering at Bronte Beach.

Fabio Tucelli (23), an Italian backpacker excited to experience Christmas in the heat, has assured concerned Bronte locals that he plans to keep the beach clean and not drink too much.

"It will be very relaxed, very calm, I have made some Irish friends at the hostel and they explain to me that Christmas at Bronte beach is a tradition"

Kyle Beatty (26), an Irish lad from County Cork and recent acquaintance of Fabio, has doubled down on the Italian’s commitment to keeping the quaint little get together completely chaos-free.

"It's just me and 4000 members of the Irish in Australia Whatsapp group heading down"

"Along with all the other nationalities"

"Should be class" said Kyle.

Local residents have responded cautiously to the reassurance, with many admitting they’ve heard similar promises before but are willing to give Fabio the benefit of the doubt.

Waverley Council has confirmed extra bins will be placed along the beachfront, while one council ranger has been rostered on to remind attendees that glass is banned and speakers should be kept to a reasonable volume.

At time of writing, Bronte Beach remains quiet and pristine, with locals enjoying the final hours of calm before Christmas morning
