In some exciting news from the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, a hard-working young kid is finally set to get his start.

The local junior who played from the Clovelly Crocodiles before impressing in the Roosters Harold Matthews Squad (Under 16s), is now a chance of playing first grade before the end of the season.

The Harold Mats star named Sonny Bill Williams boasts a big crunching tackle, the ability to run a hard but sharp line and a damaging offload.

Speaking to The Advocate this morning, Roosters Head of Recruitment Trent Stubbs told us that the potential backrowers’ promotion to the 30 man squad is a testament to the Roosters’ grassroots development.

“We have a proud history here of bringing through promising juniors, and Sonny Bill Williams is just another of the production line.”

“Other clubs are lining up to poach him, like the Dogs with their huge war chest, but we are able to keep him here on the minimum wage because he just likes being around the club.”

“It’s a testament to Uncle Nick and all the powerbrokers who put in so much work behind the scenes.”
