Sydney Council Detects Traces Of Mulch In Asbestos At Children’s Playground

The city of Sydney has today been rocked by another park shutdown.

Following weeks of safety fencing and mesh going up around the city’s parks and playgrounds as a result of asbestos findings, council workers have today made a staggering new discovery.

A few traces of mulch have been discovered amongst a batch of asbestos in a playground, sparking concerns there could be mulch present at some other parks.

17 parks and green spaces have been shut down around the city since asbestos was first found at the new Rozelle Parklands.

The newest mulch findings come after authorities decided to look at a park outside of a 5 kilometre radius of Sydney’s CBD.

It’s unknown what the next steps of the Environmental Protection Authority will be, but it’s likely some private contractors will be making an absolute stack cleaning up the situation.

“We can confirm there was mulch discovered amongst the asbestos at a location just outside of Parramatta,” said a spokesperson for the agency.

“We are working to rectify the situation, but we are presently unaware how the mulch made it into the asbestos.”

“Rest assured that investigations are underway.”
