The Pride of the South Coast have today dropped a bombshell on the rest of the Eastern Seaboard.
The St George Illawarra Dragons have caused a media frenzy today by announcing the signing of explosive back-rower Gareth Ward.
Putting pen to paper on a 4 year, $4.4 million deal, the South Coast product is set to make Kogarah his new home.
The deal is conditional on his resignation being accepted by the NSW Parliament, and him being let out of prison for training and game days.
Described as a great cultural fit for the club famous for its good bloke policy, The Dragons reportedly have been working on the deal for well over 12 months.
The deal is supposed to have a large back end, which will see Ward earning in excess of $1.5 million in the last year of his contract.
“The court case and conviction was a minor hiccup,” said a spokesperson for the Dragons.
“But we are very pleased to announced that the White Lightening will be bringing his services to the Jubilee and Wollongong stadiums.”
Known for his work ethic and tenacious defence, it’s believed Ward may slot into the vacant lock roll next year.
“He’ll be an asset anywhere in our back row,” said the Dragons spokesperson.
“And he’ll be a leader and a mentor for the group.”
Gareth Ward was unavailable for comment, due to being on remand at Silverwater.
More to come.
