Although last night wasn’t the result the nation was hoping for, it’s been confirmed that the last few weeks have been fairly historic.

Despite losing to the old enemy in the semi-final of a World Cup, the momentous occasion was about a lot more than just the scoreline at the end of 90 minutes.

With a capacity crowd packing out to see the Tillies for the 6th time this tournament, fans around around the country gathered around tv screens in their droves.

While the TV numbers from the Quarter-Final with France blew people away, the early ratings from last night’s semi final are flat out off their head.

Reports have come through suggesting that 11.15 million people watched the game against England, far and away smashing the record for the most viewed sporting event and the most viewed television event in the nation’s history.

Those numbers essentially mean that half the nation watched the Tillies, marking the first occasion in quite some time that half the nation has actually actively agreed on something

That support has flowed through to everyone bar the most militant MRAs and sports agnostic fans getting around the team.

On top of the record breaking TV numbers, Matildas jerseys have sold out of stores across the nation, with more sold before the World Cup than the total of any Socceroos jerseys for the whole of last year.

“Not bad at all,” confirmed one Matildas fan this morning.

“I know the girls are shattered they won’t be playing in the final, but geez, it’s been a hell of a ride.”

“And outside of achievements on the pitch, just have a look around at the state of the nation right now.”

“Pretty good result if you ask me.”
