With the last votes being counted, South Australian Labor party members have celebrated the record breaking electoral victory of their party with a trusty pie floater.

"Any excuse to get into one of these!" said Dennis Schweinsteiger (40), before tucking into the local delicacy.

The pie floater, a beloved South Australian dish of a meat pie submerged in pea soup, has raised eyebrows among much of the other Australian states over the years.

But much like Queenslanders with their undying love of jet black sarsaparilla, South Australians refuse to hear any criticisms of their beloved local cuisine.

And the pie floaters are currently being devoured by the bowlful at the headquarters of the South Australian Labor Party, who have just enjoyed the biggest victory of any incumbent Labor Government in modern history.

"We knew the win would be big but not this big" reflected South Australian Premier, Peter Malinauskas, as he began swirling a spoon in his green soup.

"I hear on the east coast people celebrate big wins with champagne?"

"That's not how we do it down here. It's the pie floaters and a long neck of Coopers Stout"

Coincidently, many Liberal party members are also eating pie floaters this week, but this time as comfort food after their party was decimated by the rise of One Nation.

"The pie floater is the only consistent thing in my life these days.." said an exhausted Liberal party member from the Adelaide Hills.

"When the institutions that I love and have given my life to begin collapsing, at least I'll always have this square shaped pie floating in green stuff"
