Fresh off the back of a bumper round of blowouts, Laurie Daley has rocked Rugby League to its core.

The NSW Blues coach has fronted media this morning to confirm that he's handing out a number of shock debuts this year.

However, one move in particular has caused serious raising of eyebrows.

The naming of 57-year-old former West Indies legend Brian Lara on the sting for NSW.

Despite having never played a game of NRL, Lara has come from the clouds to cement himself a Blues jersey.

Even more shocking than his lack of match fitness and experience at NRL level, is the dropping of Blues mainstay Brain To'o.

The sensational naming of the veteran Trinidadian adds to the intrigue, after Laurie revealed 45-year-old former Maroons Utility Casey McGuire will be getting a run for his second state.

In typical Laurie fashion, his team naming has left many soulless property obsessed southerners scratching their heads.

"Brian Lara is going to be a fucking liability under the high ball," sighed one long suffering Blues fan today.

"Sure he's strong enough and a great finisher, but he's gonna get caught out in defence against the Hammer and Fifita."

"He's never played with Kotoni before either."

"God, another year gone."

"Don't know why I bother sometimes."

Queensland has of course named another Queensland team and are relishing the opportunity to prove that they get Origin footy.

More to come.
