The 'realignment' of the Federal Liberal Party is underway apparently, according to last night's explosive ABC Four Corners episode, titled 'Realignment'.

Throughout the hour-long showcase of investigative political journalism, a range of former and current Liberal Party members spoke about the trials and tribulations facing the Federal Opposition, after two back-to-back landslide election losses and two leaderships changes in less than two terms.

It comes off the back of their terminally unstable attempt at holding government despite ousting three different Prime Ministers in five years.

As would be expected, the overall sentiment is that the party's newest leader Angus Taylor is seeking to 'unite' the party, after twice divorcing with the Nationals in the space of one year.

However, it is no longer 'the moderates' being blamed for the Liberal Party's identity crisis, but instead the nervous right-wing backbenchers who insist they must shift further to the right to neutralise the one-trick ponies from One Nation.

One talking head, that always seems to appear in these ABC post-mortems with an artillery of useful perspectives to offer in hindsight, is Victorian Senator James Paterson.

It appears lost on both the ABC and the Liberal Party that the apparent 'conservative powerbroker' James Paterson appears to have backed every single leadership change since 2018, while also offering the ABC interesting insights into why each leader was ineffective the moment they got rolled.

However, this time, it appears to be different. Angus Taylor is the future.

Despite the fact that many conservatives say Taylor will eventually be replaced by Andrew Hastie because he's too much of a global markets softcock, and despite the fact that the last remaining moderates say Taylor will only offer more of the same fruitless culture wars that saw Labor win 94 seats, the new leader has been heralded as is a promising political talent that will guide the Liberal Party into a new golden age!

That's according to Senator James Paterson, who said the same thing about Morrison after the incompetent Turnbull was rolled, and said the same thing about Dutton after that salesman Morrison got iced, and said the same thing about Ley after the uninspiring Dutton went down in a bloodbath last year.

And last night we learnt that he was never confident in Ley!
