The Scottish world is in shock after their national team actually qualified for the world cup, threatening a great Scottish tradition: supporting whoever England is playing.

After the decisive 4-2 victory over the Danes and an automoatic qualification into next years world cup, questions were quickly raised about the future of Scotland's greatest sporting tradition.

"It just doesn't feel right going into a World cup supporting a single team, us Scots are far more used to going into a World cup praying for England's downfall" said Seamus Fitzpatrick (38).

For many, the idea of entering a tournament with genuine national hope has created an unfamiliar sense of optimism that some residents have described as deeply uncomfortable and confusing.

Local pubs that usually hang up flags of whichever country England is playing are reportedly scrambling to find out whether they are now supposed to hang up Scottish ones too.

Sports psychologists warn that the emotional adjustment may take years, especially for supporters who have built their entire identity around the phrase "Aye, anyone but them".

One fan admitted he had already googled England's group fixtures before realising he was meant to be focusing on Scotland for once.

Even Scotland's national team staff have acknowledged the cultural dilemma.

A spokesperson said the players were proud to qualify, although they completely understood if fans still kept one eye on England in the hope of witnessing a penalty shootout disaster.

For now, the country is trying its best to process the shocking reality that they might finally have to care about their own team's results.
