Australian batter Steve Smith has reportedly consumed 53 cans of Heaps Normal during his flight from Sydney to Colombo this week.
Passengers on board claim Smith settled into what one described as “a structured routine” shortly after take-off, steadily working through the near-beers across the duration of the flight.
"He was locked in," said one traveller seated nearby.
"Very professional. Around can 15 he started calling them 'canaroonies'."
Cabin crew reportedly made repeated trips to replenish supply, with Smith allegedly smiling and saying, "Keep the canaroonies coming, y’all," while pausing intermittently to do the robot in the aisle for his fellow travellers amusement.
At 0.5 per cent ABV, the total intake equates to approximately five to six full-strength beers over the course of the flight. Team sources confirmed Smith arrived in Colombo clear-headed and in strong physical condition.
"There was no issue from a conduct perspective," said a source close to the squad.
"It was more a volume management exercise. By the end of it, he was simply warming the beer to 38 degrees then excreting. He said he didn't even like beer and that of all the beers he has tried, Heaps Normal is on the bottom end,"
Fellow passengers reported 36 visits to the aircraft lavatory and a brief period of shadow batting near the galley as turbulence settled.
Smith exited Bandaranaike International Airport under his own steam and is expected to slot straight back into Australia’s top order.
He is expected to bat at four.
