Suede has been used by humans for thousands of years, however a recent report out of Betoota’s Haute Institute has today revealed that suede is now primarily worn by very rich humans who are either meticulous clean freaks, or have so much money that they’re not phased when the delicate material gets ruined by literally anything it comes into contact with.

The decade-long investigation tracked the popularity of the natural material and discovered that the purchasers of suede became more and more niche as time went on.

Results from the survey can best be described by a venn diagram. Imagine the left circle is ‘people with heaps of money’, the right overlapping circle is ‘something or someone better have died for me to use this’, and in the centre is suede.

Other interesting insights from the survey revealed that “I want something I can wear out in the world and not be worried I’ll ruin it after a second” was among the top reasons for not purchasing suede.

According to The Advocate’s in-house fashion editor, suede is a key trend for Autumn/Winter 2025 but, like the report says, it is likely only for rich people with too much money, so the rest of you plebs better get on Temu quick sticks.

More to come.
