In some mundane news in household trends, it’s reported that the quickest way to determine a household’s social class is no longer if they have one of those fancy fridges with an ice dispenser, but by taking a look at the bathroom soap.
Originally divided into two classes – your average $3 Palmolive or the eye watering $50L for Aesop, there has now been a new ‘middle class’ soap that has grown in popularity over the past few years – Thank You soap.
A similar design to the Aesop, the Thank You brand is a popular pick for people who now have enough money to splash a few extra dollars on a hand soap with a prettier bottle.
We speak to local interior decorator Harley Stuart, to learn more about this fascinating trend.
“We find a lot of women start gravitating towards the Thank You soap around the same time they get into plants”, says Harley, “the brown bottle appeals to this sudden urge to be surrounded by nature.”
“Palmolive and Balnea are still your standard sharehouse soap.”
More to come.
