Sitting in Machattie Park, watching the geese swim by. These small things in Conor Carmichael’s life have slowly become pleasures.
“Time out of mind,” he says.
Conor has just turned 30. He thought it’d change a lot of things about his life. Would he feel older? Did he think he’d still be able to keep up with the young blokes?
“I’ll tell you something for free,” he says.
“There’s nothing more pathetic than seeing a 30-year-old falling down drunk in a pub – or in public. Anywhere, really,”
“So, I’ve thought about this long and hard, I’m going to start drinking mid-strength from now on. I think it’s time.”
Work has gotten a bit more serious, Conor is now a full-blown associate at Betoota Consulting Group. He’s responsible for large clients now. No longer can he simply turn up to work feeling hollow and empty from a weekend of unchecked drug abuse and binge drinking.
“I have to take things seriously now,”
“I’ll always remember my years drinking full-strength beers fondly but we all have to make the call one day – and today, I’m making mine.”
More to come.
