Wharfie Time is no match for the Queensland Spirit, it has been confirmed.

In fact, it's hard to know if Wharfie Time will ever be a thing again.

The people of Fremantle are having some tough conversations with themselves this week, after an exciting cultural phenomena turned into a harrowing curse.

As of only this season, the Dockers fans began a wild tradition of dimming lights and playing a big-screen graphics of a boat crashing through waves at the back end of their home games - as a crowd rallying celebration of their town's rich industrial maritime heritage.

For the last week, the club was arguing with the AFL over whether or not they should be allowed to do it at the MCG for the grand final.

Eventually, Fremantle received permission to use the stadium activation as goal music just once against Brisbane - and waited until they believed they were so far in front that they couldn't be left embarrassed.

Fremantle fans went absolutely wild as the fog horn played, with many already celebrating their club's first ever flag.

Sadly for Freo, Wharfie Time turned has the reverse effect on the actual players - as the Brisbane Lions went absolutely ballistic - kicking a goal every minute until full time, securing the club's second three-peat in their short three decade history.

Fremantle fans can look forward to countless sleepless nights, as they toss and turn thinking about what could have been if they didn't wave a red rag in front of their Opponents with just minutes to go.

In Queensland today, life returns to normal, as locals are comforted by the reminder that they are indeed the superior Aussie Rules state.

While working on a residential job in Brisbane's northside today, recently-activated Lions fans Campbell Beattie (27) can't stop chuckling to himself.
