The Government has today proven to the general public that they are LISTENING.
As the nation buckles under a fresh cost of living crisis driven by some fuckhead on the other side of the world starting a fresh new war, the Prime Minister has decided to act.
With this year's budget rapidly approaching and everyone having two cents on what should be in there or not in there, PM Anthony Albanese and his Treasurer Jim Chalmers have decided it's time to show everyone they mean business.
Not by announcing changes to some of the corporate welfare that has plundered the government's coffers for decades, but by flagging the request for some economic modelling on the corporate welfare schemes that their party will eagerly watch how the media respond to before potentially considering the findings of that modelling.
Labelled smart politics, (which it probably is to be fair) the latest move treads the well worn path of slowly sense checking political policy in the media and public zeitgeist before making decisions about whether to implement said policy.
And with more and more people blowing up about the fact we've got fuck all to show for the plundering of our natural resources, and are now feeling the squeeze of petro states who have plenty to show for their resources price gouging us, the government is offering up some smart political solutions.
"Look, we just don't need to be too hasty," said the government that is also floating the possibility of considering changes to Capital Gains Tax Concessions, which cost the country 20 billion a year to put more money in the pocket of property investors.
"So while we know that we could recoup another 20 bill or so from the giant tax dodging gas companies, it's better to just explore the possibility of modelling it to get a sense of whether people like it or not," finished the government with a 96 seat majority who were elected to govern instead of playing smart political games.
More to come.
