A commercial airline pilot has reportedly received a formal final warning after once again using the in-flight intercom to speak in a clear, audible, and fully coherent voice , a move widely considered to go against industry tradition.

Bryce Hammond (38), who has flown with Virgin airlines for over a decade, shocked and unsettled passengers on flight PS481 when he delivered a pre-landing announcement that featured full sentences, a clear voice, and absolutely no mumbling.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we’ll be landing shortly in Melbourne. The weather is 17 degrees with clear skies, and we expect to arrive five minutes ahead of schedule” Bryce allegedly said, in what one passenger described as “completly easy to understand”

Flight crew later confirmed that several passengers pressed their call buttons out of sheer confusion.

“One guy the intercom might have been hacked by someone” said flight attendant Melissa Jones (33).

A spokes person for Virgin has said Captain Hammond’s behaviour: “violated long-standing airline policy to make in-flight announcements almost impossible to understand”.

“For decades, pilots have spoken in cryptic murmurs and broken syllables, to the point were passengers are unsure if the pilot is even trying to speak to them or just accidentally left the mic on. Captain Hammond’s decision to enunciate his words is deeply disappointing.” added the Virgin official.

Hammond has reportedly been ordered to attend a week-long retraining course, where he'll relearn how to slur entire paragraphs while holding the intercom two inches too close to his mouth.
