The owner of a company that sells exclusively black paint for roofs has somehow made it onto the AFR Rich List solely thanks to Australian property developers.

"They said I was crazy to only sell one shade of paint for one specific part of a house.... But look at me now!!!!!" he said before popping a third bottle of champagne.

Darren Thomas, founder of Black Roofing Solutions, reportedly built his $2.4 billion fortune by predicting that every new Australian housing estate would have the exact same depressing black coat of paint on its roof.

His company’s only product, Black paint, can now be found absorbing sunlight across kilometres of farmland from Marsden Park to Austral.

“We experimented with grey once, but developers said it had too much character,” said Darren.

“They wanted something that would complement the black gutters, black garage door, black window frames and tiny tree that dies within six weeks.”

Property developers have praised the paint for giving every home a soulless appearance while helping outer suburbs achieve indoor temperatures normally associated with a sauna.

The billionaire now owns seven waterfront properties, a private jet and a super yacht.

Despite his success, Darren remains humble and insists he has not forgotten his roots.
