An old Serbian bloke attending his 38th Australian Open has found himself attempting to ingratiate himself with a group of Sydney social media influencers sitting next to him in the nosebleeds.
Like any honest Balkan man, Milan Stojanović (66) enjoys a good game of tennis, regardless of the unrelenting heat and extortionate drink prices at the matches.
As the Australian Open increasingly courts online influencers with little interest in tennis to boost its “luxury” image, Milan has found himself rubbing shoulders with the who's-who of social media’s elite.
"Very pretty ladies come to tennis now" said a very frank and honest Milan.
But the influx of influencers at the tennis isn’t the only display of luxury on offer.
The price of drinks has genuinely insulted Milan on a moral level, forcing him to sort himself out by his own means.
In an attempt to build a rapport with the women he would be sitting next to for the next few hours, Milan thought it would be right to offer them a few sips of warm rakija he had smuggled into the game inside a plastic water bottle.
After a brief whispered huddle about the drink being "kinda European vibes” the girls accepted.
The rakija burned on the way down, prompting shocked laughter, coughing, and a unanimous agreement that it was way stronger than they anticipated
Milan nodded approvingly, explaining that this was normal and that his cousin made it in his backyard in Dandenong.
By the second set, the influencers were loudly backing Djokovic despite not knowing the score, while Milan sat back satisfied and quite drunk.
