A local Vinnies store has enacted a ban on selfie sticks and vlogging microphones this week as it looks to combat the concerning rise of Thriftfluencers who have document every second of their life.

The Advocate understands that the small St Vincent de Paul store at 19 Salvo Street has decided it’s had enough of being treated like a content creator’s personal film set, and is hoping to deter people from coming in to film three minute TikToks about the suitcases full of mouldy caps that are for sale.

Speaking to Vinnies store manager and retired nun Maureen Fitzgibbon, it’s believed the senior volunteers of the shop have simply had enough.

“This is a shop, you come in, you buy something and then you leave. No cameras or monologues to camera need to be involved,” Maureeen huffed to our reporter.

“I don’t understand why all these young people come in here to whisper into their shirt lapels like security guards. Find a jacket or some DVDs to buy, then piss off!”

After publicly announcing the ban with a homemade sign this week, the store’s bold new set of rules has been the topic of conversation amongst vintage shoppers across Betoota all week.

Along with the banning of selfie sticks, the store’s also put restrictions on entering the premise with any form of camera or video recording equipment, as well as strawberry matcha lattes.

However speaking to Maureen’s granddaughter, 24-year-old TikTokker Brigid O’Connell, it’s understood that the store’s popularity with vloggers has also been incredibly good for business.

“Yeah Nan’s pissed but I keep telling her to turn it into a positive thing for the charity. Since all the big Thriftfluencers have been posting from her racks she’s been able to mark everything up by 50%.”

“She sold my old school uniform skirts from St Catherine's High the other day for $50 a pop, I donated them for free. The store is rolling in it, they might be able to buy a new radio soon!”

More to come.
