NSW Labor is in damage control after an accidental wardrobe malfunction revealed Chris Minns' Gen X guilty pleasure, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The malfunction, which involved a staffer forgetting to pack extra socks which forced Minns to discreetly front the press sockless, revealing a Red Hot Chili Peppers tattoo on his ankle.
Witnesses say photographers initially assumed the small black symbol was a birthmark before zooming in and recognising the band's iconic asterisk logo.
Within minutes, Labor staffers were reportedly scrambling to reassure voters that the tattoo dated back to the late 1990s and should be viewed within the cultural context of the era.
"It's not like he got it last week," one exhausted adviser explained.
"It was a different time. The Chilli Peppers were a cultural phenomenon."
The hip Gen X dad of the state and Premier attempted to steer the press conference back onto housing policy before being interrupted by a journalist asking what he thought about their later stuff.
Sources claim the incident has sparked fears that further relics from Minns youth could emerge, including frosted tips, an old Triple J T-shirt, or a ticket stub from a 2003 Big Day Out tucked inside an unused wallet.
Political opponents have seized on the controversy, with one MP claiming that anyone who really knows their stuff knows Anthony Kiedis was a mediocre singer and song writer.
Minns has refused to comment further, although staff confirmed the Premier has been listening to Under The Bridge at a worrying rate.
