In horrible news for the people of New South Wales, emergency services are reporting that a category four weather system could cause “significant structural damage” to communities in North Queensland over the next 24 hours.

Cyclone Narelle is expected to take roofs of homes, and send large and dangerous debris flying, with winds strong enough to blow away trailers and caravans.

On top of this, a dump of rainfall could bring with it dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding on the peninsular.

This level of natural disaster has almost certainly assured that Queensland will win the 2026 State Of Origin series in a 3-0 clean sweep.

The system is expected to cross the FNQ peninsular while still maintaining it's initial cyclone strength - before moving over the Gulf of Carpentaria, and then making a second landfall over the Top End on Saturday evening.

This will threaten already flooded communities up north, and again, will almost definitely result in the sheer and utter demoralisation of the NSW Origin side in 3 months time.

As is common knowledge in Australian rugby league, the Queensland Maroons are motivated by suffering. Be that the personal tribulations of teammates and coaching staff, or the pain and strife that is endured by their state as a whole.

In the 46-years since the introduction of the interstate rugby league series known as State Of Origin, the Maroons have never lost off the back of a Queensland natural disaster.

Right around the nation today, the Queensland Spirit is being unleashed, as communities in the Cyclone's path begin to batten down the hatches, and the southern cities pray for their brothers and sisters.

In fact, the only thing that will get these people through the misery ahead is the Queensland Spirit - and how it embodies Queenslanders.

Be that the selfless community volunteers that will emerge in the next few days for rescues and the clean up, or the state representative footballers who will expose their unwitting New South Wales opponents to extreme bodily harm and soul-destroying scorelines this winter.

Resilience, Mateship, Victimhood and Profanity, those are the four key tenets to the Queensland Spirit - and all of them are about to be channelled into the men and women wearing Maroon.
