Parents around the nation are reported to not be that assured by health experts claims that the absestos tainted sand is low risk, if not for the fact that it’s asbestos, but because it has to be removed by people wearing fucking hazmat suits.
This comes as asbestos was found in children’s play sand by chance in an Australia laboratory, who were conducting test samples for staff training.
It was only reported after a lab manager mentioned the findings in a podcast interview.
Asbestos has been banned in Australia since 2003, after decades long research showed prolonged exposure to these fibres can cause severe health issues, including mesothelioma, which is a fatal form of cancer caused primarily by asbestos exposure.
It can often take up to forty years for health issues to develop since first exposure.
However, parents have been assured that the asbestos found in play sand poses little health risks, and that this whole situation has been completely overblown.
But one local mum, Dara Dumoine, says she remains pretty sceptical.
“If it’s so bloody safe, why are the schools all being shut down and overrun by blokes wearing hazmat suits?”, spits Dara, “you’re telling me my kids been eating something that needs to be handled with PPE gear?”
“How long has asbestos been in play sand? This entire fucking time?”
“Last year it was in the wood chips in playgrounds. What else is it in? Do I need to test my kids petite Miam? It’s bloody ridiculous.”
More to come.
