A millennial granddaughter had a throwback to high school last night while texting her surprisingly tech savvy grandmother.

30 year old Mindy Hayes was updating her 85 year old Nana, Josephine Hayes on her birthday celebrations when she started to feel a nervous/ excited feeling she hasn’t experienced since 2012.

Josephine’s excessive use of emojis and X’s and O’s triggered an emotional response in Mindy that she had only experienced whilst messaging boys on kik in year 10.

“I’d get the text notification and see like three different heart emojis, heart eyes emoji, flower emoji, dancer woman emoji, twin girl emoji, present emoji, night sky emoji then an accidental number 3 and then 10 X’s,” Mindy told the Advocate.

“Took me right back to high school messaging Cory Sworder at 1am on my iPod touch,” she added.

Like a year 10 in 2012 who first discovered emojis, Josephine was thrilled to see the imagery she could now use while sending texts to her family.

“I love all the colours and the silly faces, some of them really make me giggle,” Josephine told our reporter.

“There’s a lovely variety of flowers on the emoji keyboard too,” she added.

While the majority of phone users only send emojis to be ironic, our over 80s women are holding down the fort with keeping emojis genuine and sincere. However sometimes the excessive use is down to some accidental reasons.

“A lot of the time I don’t know how to get out of the emojis keyboard so I accidentally send 8 of the same umbrella emoji.”

“It still looks sweet though!”
