The Brisbane Broncos disappointing 26-30 round 11 loss to the St George Dragons has barely made any headlines today.
In fact, there has been very little coverage of the fact that yesterday arvo saw the Brisbane team rack up their fifth of six losses in the 2025 season.
It is believed that reason for this is that the vast majority of the club’s current supporters are not even that interested in football.
That is according to hundreds of thousands of women on social media, who have declared that current Brisbane Broncos squad are by far the most captivating component of Australia’s professional rugby league competition.
It is believed that the modern game’s increasingly flashy backline manoeuvres and acrobatic try-scoring has played absolutely zero part in recruiting this new wave of female audiences.
It all about their jutting jawlines and smokey eyelashes, paired with lean physiques and rock star aesthetics.
Gone are the days of the spikey mohawk mullets and bikie sleeve tattoos, as the NRL’s Gen-Z cohort make a point of styling themselves in away that actually appeals to the general public – rather than intimidates them.
The current Brisbane Broncos sex icons include, first and foremost, the currently injured fullback Reece Walsh, a man whose dashing good looks sees him actively targeted with high tackles and dog shots by jealous NRL opponents.
On the wing is the rugged Jesse ‘Shelby’ Arthars, a moustached soft boy who looks like a mix of a Triple J darling meets the Maori Peaky Blinders
Then of course there’s the Tongan-Koori heart throb Kotoni Staggs, who made history early in his career as the first NRL player to actually be the victim of revenge porn sex tape – as opposed to being the distributor.
Kiwi second-rower Jordan Riki also makes the rounds on thirsty TikTok reels, as well as Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley nightlife strip, where crowds rush to any nightclub that is rumoured to be hosting the Broncos on a night out.
Captain Paddy Carrigan, also provides something for the mums, who are desperate for evidence that NRL players can in fact be charming and well-mannered as well as quite dishy.
However, in the context of history, the 2025 Broncos side might not be the sexiest line up of young studs that the club has ever put forward.
It may be completely lost on the current social media generation of adoring gays and girlies that the early mid-2000s Broncos were, in fact, even hotter.
With the likes of Gorden Tallis, Shane Webcke, Petero Civoniceva and ol’ gravelbox Darren Lockyer – the Broncos of yesteryear had an almost ‘Beatlemania’ like effect on the female fans when they rolled through the Normanby Hotel on a Sunday arvo reeking of Winnie Blues and Deep Heat.
Kiwi studs Tonie Carroll and Brad Thorn also deserve a special mention in this era of Broncos sex icons – as does the iconic Western Queensland hunk, Brent ‘Boogie Board’ Tate.
