It can now be confirmed that early 2000s rom coms have had a massive effect on millennial women entering communications careers, with none more so than the 2004 flick ‘13 going on 30.’

The movie, stars Jennifer Garner as  Jenna Rink, a 13 year old girl who awakens to find herself 30 years old and living in 2004 as a fashion editor.

Whereas the Lizzie Mcguire movie was responsible for millennial women’s obsession with the idea of an Italian holiday romance, 13 going on 30 has been blamed for making journalism look like the coolest job ever.

Other notable entries include ‘Never Been Kissed’, featuring Drew Barrymore as an investigative reporter, ‘Grosie Josie’, and Kate Hudson’s effortlessly cool Andy in ‘How to lose a guy in 10 days’

And of course, Carrie Bradshaw’s massively overpaid role as a sex columnist in Sex and the City.

Speaking to a few millennial women who have jobs in journalism, social media, digital marketing and public relations, The Advocate learns that 13 going on 30 was a pivotal moment for many, who sincerely wish they could have worked in print journalism.

“I’m so bummed I wasn’t able to be a stylish print journalist in New York in the early 2000s”, laments Alex, who now works as a publicist for a boutique agency in the French Quarter, “with a cute apartment and an attainably sexy boyfriend.”

“What a stitch up.”

Another woman, Jesinta, says she had been eagerly awaiting to be ‘thirty, flirty and thriving.’

“Yeah, I guess I’m not the fashion editor for an extremely popular women’s magazine, but I manage a few social media accounts and one of them is for dog onesies so I guess that’s close?”

More to come.
