The wider Owen family of the greater Betoota region are set for a bit of excitement this year, it can be confirmed.
This comes after the grandfather of the family, Phil Owen (87) passed away overnight.
The devastating news for the family of the widely liked and respected old fella, came as some what of a surprise, given his general good health.
However, with the funeral planning underway, the vultures are already beginning to circle on the remnants of the Phil's life.
While his collection of stamps and his 1969 Dodge Charger will be somewhat contested amongst his 4 kids and 9 grandkids, it's the humble family home that he lived in for most of his life that is already beginning to cause some shit.
Built for a couple of cases of beer on a block of land bought for a few stamps back when it was next to a tannery in Betoota's Flight Path District, the house has remained relatively unchanged over the last few decades.
However, while it's not the flashest joint, it sits on a very healthy 1034 square metre block.
A block surrounded by much smaller blocks, in a suburb that has seen a 712% appreciation in the median property price this century.
Which means the understated family home that is responsible for lifetime's of memories is worth a lot of money.
Which means Phil's family are about to go to war over it, and tarnish a lifetime of his efforts keeping the family together.
More to come.
Much more to come.
