Some idle suburban chit chat has fallen flat today, as two mates attempt to talk about the new thing.

What they’ve found – as two blokes who’ve known each other since back when the entire nation would religiously tune in to watch the latest Chris Lilley comedy program every Thursday night at 730pm – is that there is no new thing.

Maybe there’s a few commonalities, but no thing.

“I’ve been watching this new show” says one mate.

“Have you seen [one of the thousands of international TV and film productions with budgets and star-power that local productions simply cannot compete with, especially when placed next to each other in the on-demand format]”

“It’s pretty good”

“But you’ve gotta stick with it until the third episode [because our attention spans have been eroded by the chaotic rewards-based algorithms that confirm all of our prejudices and protect us from from any remotely challenging conversations with short-form microcontent that makes a half hour episode look like the Director’s Cut of the entire Lord Of The Rings Trilogy]

The other mate hasn’t heard of this show, before inquiring which of the 8 major streaming platforms it is being broadcasted on.

“Oh yeah I don’t have that one” he says.
