A local man on the rental market has once again thrown in the towel after spotting a first year uni kid with well to do looking parents at the same inspection as him.
"What's the point" said a defeated James Monroe (27).
"How can I compete with a kid whose parents are willing to sign on to the lease?!"
James, who's quickly approaching the date in which his current lease is going up in price, has been regularly visiting inspections for the last3 months.
"It's not the lawyers who I mind competing with" explained James.
"It's the kids with lawyers as parents"
According to James, the final straw came when he overheard the student’s father casually ask the agent if the owners “prefer six or twelve months upfront.”
Witnesses say the inspection descended into quiet despair as the uni kid’s mother discussed schools, renovations and their son’s busy semester with uni and the barista job he's already planning to quit.
“I could feel my chances evaporating” James said.
“They were asking about storage while I was calculating if I could really manage spending half my income on rent”
James later attempted to remain competitive by mentioning his stable income, clean rental history and willingness to water plants.
The agent nodded politely before returning to the parents, who had mentioned they are willing to pay 30% more than asked, if they can go forward with signing the lease.
More to come.
