Proud Aussie, Claydon Brankton (45, estate auctioneer) loves his country.
From Gallipolli to the global war on terror, Claydon will always back our troops. Except for that weird 6 month window back in 2021 when the Australian Army was dispatched to enforce domestic public health measures during the pandemic lockdowns... But that's in the past now.
While he wouldn’t necessarily be considered a student of Australian military history, he always nods at the old diggers round the two up circle on ANZAC Day, and insists on buying them a beer even if they tell him it's not necessary.
But supporting our troops also means defending them. That’s why Claydon finds himself overcome with white hot rage whenever he hears of any of these chortling lefties disrespecting our brave ANZACs.
Most recently he's learnt of a ‘left-wing’ witch hunt to criminalise and discredit one of Australia’s most decorated war veterans just for the sake of it.
Claydon had never heard of Ben Roberts-Smith until earlier this week, when he became audience to a coordinated spree of opinions from populist influencers, billionaires and retired conservative politicians - all of whom have boldly declared they will never ever respect the findings of the Australian Federal Police, and simply do not recognise the rule of international law.
Claydon isn't really one for politics, but what these highly emotive and grainy JPEGs tell him is that Australian soldiers are being scapegoated by people who have never been to war.
While Claydon has also never been to war, he knows that war isn't pretty - and refuses to judge any man who has ever walked on the battlefield.
Every Australian man that is.
It is not certain if he would provide that same immunity to the brave Japanese soldiers who were recruited from their small rice farming villages to commit similar war crimes against Australian soldiers and other other allied forces during the fog of World War Two.
Either way, this particular AFP investigation isnt’t up for debate - as far as Claydon is concerned.
Because he believes it is treasonous to even engage with any side of the story that may possibly bring into question the highly perjurious and pixelated Facebook memes that declare Ben Roberts-Smith 100% innocent of any of the crimes that the Australian Federal Police, The Nine Network, and up to twenty fellow soldiers believe he may be guilty of.
Claydon, like hundreds of thousands of other highly vocal civilians who've never enlisted for military service, refuses to even think about the legalities. This isn’t even about whether or not horrific war crimes were even committed against innocent civilians, it's about whether or not they love their country. And Claydon loves his country, so that means this Ben Roberts-Smith bloke is innocent.
