In a move that has become a cherished yet mildly infuriating tradition, local mum Jenny Thompson, 54, celebrated her daughter’s Molly’s 20th birthday with a poorly cropped Instagram post that has left the family group chat in shambles.
The post, featuring a close-up of Molly’s teenage head cut off at the forehead and chin, was captioned with her trademark birthday shoutout: “Happy birthday to my gorgeous girl! Can’t believe you’re 20, gosh where does the time go? Love you forever xx.”
While friends and relatives flooded the comments with heart emojis, Molly was less than impressed. “Why is it always the worst photo she can find?” she said, referencing last year’s upload of her mid-yawn at Christmas lunch.
"How come I never know when she's taking these photos. This one has been cropped from a 24-person group shot"
When pressed about the questionable crop, Jenny defended her creative choices. “It’s such a lovely photo of her face,” she insisted.
The post has since gone semi-viral among Molly’s friends, who have turned it into a meme, with one commenting, “WATTA HEAD”
Molly says she can only hope that mum doesn’t dig up the school formal pics next year.
More to come.
