A Melbourne IT worker has made a fascinating discovery this week, when he dropped into a Salamon outlet to buy some casual shoes.

Speaking to the Advocate, Lachlan Simpson, 34, revealed that one of the store assistants had asked him what type of conditions he was planning on hiking in, which confused him, greatly.

“She explained to me that these jackets were made for more than braving the gusts on Collins Street, they were actually designed for hiking!", said Lachlan, genuinely surprised.

The sales assistant told the Advocate that almost no one purchasing these jackets priced at $850 is planning to use them for their designed purpose.

“It isn’t safe to assume that someone wearing Salamons and purchasing a jacket that costs more than half the average rent in this city is planning a hike.”

Mr Simpson did not let this new found knowledge spoil the fun, as he opted for the newest GORE-TEX model to match his Salomons and tapped his card for the $1500 transaction.

He exited the store and in true Melbourne style, it had just started to rain.

“Perfect,” he thought.

More to come.
