The Liberal Party have moved to steady the course today, according to reports out of Canberra.
Less than a year into the stewardship of its first national female leader, the Liberals have made the move to oust Susan Ley from the job.
This comes after Angus Taylor and a number of other senior Liberal figures have resigned from the Shadow Cabinet in what looks set to be the trigger for a leadership spill.
Unless we have a Peter Duttonesque style numbers mishap, it's likely that during the spill, Ley will be rolled for the affable Mr Angus Taylor.
After being OOO for the initial leadership speculation, Taylor returned from Europe a few weeks ago to get the ball rolling on Angoo26.
Seeing off a back room challenge from Andrew Hastie (who can now spend more time responding to comments on Facebook), Angus' support inside the Liberal Party has grown.
Now, in a sign that the party wants to modernise after being gashed by Teals in metro seats and Labor in outer metro and regional seats, they are booting their first female leader from the moderate wing of the party to install a more conservative figure.
"Yeah, after going harder to the right and watching our party get decimated at the last election, we think we need to double down and go even further right," said one Liberal powerbroker speaking on the condition of anonymity.
"So that's what we are doing to win back the base."
"Forget the sensible centre, it's all about the culture wars hot take fringe."
