A bloated HECS debt is feeling particularly heavy for a young law student today, as she drags herself to another day in the office.Into her 5th year of studies at Betoota Polytechnics College, Alyssa Carlisle (26) has picked up a gig on the front desk as Bernstein and Burns Partners, one of Betoota’s busiest and most trusted firms.

After being told to “get some real world experience” from her university lecturers, Alyssa had high hopes that she’d be getting into the weeds in the role by researching cases, preparing briefs, and maybe even the odd visit to court to see where the action happens.

However after two months of filling up the minties jar and occasionally checking on the toilet paper supply, Alyssa is livid after being told her remit now includes writing, starring and directing in corporate TikToks.

Getting dragged into the room by one of the firm’s partners, 58-year-old Richard Burns, Alyssa was told it’s time to flex her non-existent acting skills and “start TikTokking!”

“Al, we love what you do. You’re really brought a young energy into the place,” started Peter, “But I’ve seen some of those TikTokets online and lots of firms in town have been doing ‘funny videos’, I think you’d be great at it.”

“I’d love us to be posting like 3 or 4 a week, just skits around the office, let’s show people our fun side!”

Dying inside at the thought of putting herself on camera and asking her cohort of dull and boring colleagues to learn the latest viral dance, Alyssa gulped and just nodded along.

“Go down to that electronics shop in the mall, and buy one of those clip on microphones if you want. Just pay for it and we’ll expense you back, when you wrap up this internship.”

“It’ll be a great culture builder!”

More cringe to come.
