An overly enthusiastic Novocastrian is driving across the Trey Mooney Mooney Bridge today, as he dares to dream about a wooden spoon-free NRL season.

After watching three rounds of National Rugby League, Maitland diesel fitter and long-suffering Knights fan Josh Chatman is reportedly optimistic that his team might not come dead last this season.

Riding high off the Knights shock upset in Vegas, two weeks ago Josh journeyed to Brookvale to watch his Knights spank Manly, a day he admits was right up there with the birth of his twin boys, Kurt and Matt.

And despite getting carved up at home last weekend by the Warriors and their hulking forwards, mainly Leka Halasima, Josh has decided to shell out $350 to fill up his Ford Raptor and travel down the M1 Motorway to watch the Knights take on the Doggies.

“I usually wouldn’t bother travelling to any game that’s not at Marathon Stadium, especially with the cost of fuel at the moment,” Josh told The Advocate as he sucked down a Caramel Fudge Iced Coffee from the twin servo Hungry Jacks.

“But that new Sandon Smith is showing promise, and Bradman Best hasn’t been injured yet!”

Sitting 8th on the ladder with two wins and one loss, Josh says he’s trekking to Sydney to ride the good times while they’re still lukewarm.

“At least I’m committed and brave enough to go, any of my mates who back the Chooks were too scared to go to Brookie on Thursday night.”

“Besides, the Royal Easter is on so if my Knights are back to our basketcase best, I can always eject early and go check out the spongecake contest.”

“Might find more structural integrity in those tiered cakes than what our halves have shown over the last few years.”

More to come.
