In some welcome good news for the nation, the nightlight hot spot of Kings Cross is back up and running.

Just days after the NSW Government announced it was repealing the last remnants of the lock out laws, reporters on the ground in Sydney have reported a surge in the city's nightlife.

"Yeah we are so back," said one of the Advocate's Sydney reporters heading in early for a 5:30am morning shift start.

"Waiting at the train station at sparrow's fart with a bunch of off their heads little Newy kids made me feel warm and hopeful."

"They'd been out all night and rather than pay out the nose for somewhere to stay, they were just catching the first train home and having a little kip."

"Really took me back to the glory days, when people from all around the metropolis of Sydney used to roll in on the train, push the boat out and slink back broken and tired on the first train home to their regional centre."

"Nature is healing I think."

"I'm sure I'll get sick of it pretty soon, but for now it's just nice to see people enjoying what a major global city can offer."

More to come.
