Questions have been raised this morning after former Test cricketer Rob Quiney was named by US rapper Kanye West on a list of people, and cartoon characters, who have betrayed him.
Sandwiched between fellow rapper Freddie Gibson and popular animated character Curious George, it is not known why Quiney is featured on this list as internet sleuths try to find a link.
The Advocate reached out to Quiney for comment but were told there would be none made after an exclusive report from our reporters earlier in the month revealed that the Shield centurion attended a Chinese military parade with Dan Andrews and Robert (Bob) Carr.
Industry commentators are entertaining the possibility that West may know another man named Rob Quiney and the naming of him in the betrayal list is simply a coincidence. However, without Quiney or West able to confirm, the mystery deepens.
One theory follows Quiney being name-checked in the controversial 2016 single ‘Famous’ from ‘The Life of Pablo’.
Shorting before the infamous bars featuring Taylor Swift, it’s alleged that the phrase ‘Quiney is a RN, he shoulda replaced Ponting when he retired’ is hidden in the track via backmasking, a technique popular for hiding messages in the 70’s prog rock era.
The Advocate sent a series of questions regarding the backmasking to Def Jam Records, who published the track, but have yet to receive a reply.
More to come.
