A cloud of green envy is expected to hover above Docklands, Melbourne this weekend, as AFL execs wallow in a fog of jealousy.
With every pub north of the Barassi Line expected to be packed with Rugby League fans this Sunday, head honchos down in Melbourne are reportedly a little jealous, it can be reported.
While the NRL host yet another spectacular season opener at Allegiant Stadium, and bring their game to the mass gambling mecca that is Las Vegas, AFL Execs are allegedly sitting around rehashing the time they sent two lackluster teams to kick the Sherrin around in China.
“It’ll never work this whole NRL in Vegas thing, it’s running out of steam already,” said one AFL head of marketing, as he scrolled his phone wincing at every piece of NRL content amping up the Vegas fixtures.
“People forget they actually stole the idea from us, after we sent Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast Suns to Jiangwan Stadium back in 2017.”
“4,000 fans filling out that field in the suburbs of Shanghai, now that’s entertainment!”
However, after surveying a number of fly-by sports fans, it’s believed the general consensus is Rugby League is back, and who knows what the other codes are doing.
Speaking to 45 year old Betoota mother of five Denise Edwards, the Vegas storyline has reportedly kept the NRL top of mind this week.
“Even my mothers group knows footy’s back, the Vegas thing keeps popping up in our feeds.”
“The AFL? Nah got no clue when it starts, maybe after Easter?”
“Super Rugby? Haven’t seen any news articles about it either.
“A League? Sorry I’ve never watched archery in my life.”
More fireworks to come.
