An Irish bloke on a working holiday visa is very unimpressed with Chinatown's take on Chinese food.
27 year old Tyrone O'conner, originally hailing from county Carlow in Ireland, is very unimpressed with how Sydney's Chinese food holds up against the Chinese food from his hometown.
"It's just not authentic, you know? Where are the chips? the curry sauce? the fried chicken?" said Tyrone.
"I'll tell you what some of these Chinese people here need a few cooking lessons from the chefs at the Dragon Inn Chinese Takeaway back in Carlow!" he added, referring to the fluorescent-lit Irish institution known for serving “Chinese” food that contains no discernible Chinese ingredients.
Locals say Tyrone was last seen wandering through Dixon Street asking multiple restaurant owners if they had “half-and-half” or “a spice bag.”
“It’s all a bit too… inauthentic for me" he reportedly said, after learning that salt and chilli chicken in Sydney doesn’t automatically come with chips and curry poured over it.
Tyrone now claims that Sydney’s food scene is overrated and that authentic Chinese cuisine can only be found within a 100 metre radius of late night pubs in regional Ireland.
"I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Back home, you can get a proper Chinese meal for seven euro and it comes with a can of Fanta and a fork" he said proudly, before walking into a sushi train and asking for sweet and sour chicken balls.
