The mainstream media are today frantically trying to broaden the news cycle, after a horrifying incident in Perth on Monday.

Following the arrest of a man who threw a bomb into a crowd of people on January 26, in what can adequately be described as an attempted terrorist attack, large news organisations around the country are trying not to keep the news cycle pretty broad.

Despite it having all the characteristics of a terrorist attack, the mainstream media have confirmed they aren't keen to just jump to conclusions and whip up fear and anger around the incident.

"Look, if it looks like a terrorist attack, walks like a terrorist attack, but sounds like a One Nation Senator, then let's not jump to conclusions," said a spokesperson from SkyNews, who have been part of a media cohort breathing as much oxygen as physically possible into Pauline Hanson's One Nation party.

"So I know there are people out there who wanna jump on events and use them for their own agenda, but let's just use our heads here for a second and let the relevant authorities work through the incident."

"We don't need to jump to conclusions and start linking the actions of what appears to be an angry white man with far right beliefs trying to kill a bunch of Australians in broad daylight as part of a blatant hate crime, to the media's emboldening of people through dangerous rhetoric around race, migration and religion."

"That would be dangerous and could have real world consequences, so I think we just take a breath and have a look at what drove this young man to commit an act like this."

More to come.
